Excellent. I tend to paint oil over acrylic (it just makes it sooooo much faster...Usually I will mix a matte gel mixed in with acrylic gel medium (over an ink drawing) and it seems to work pretty well for me...just starting using this technique.
There are so many ways to work with oil, (I don't like working with acrylics, because they tend to screw up brushes almost instantly, but it is the best stuff to use for underpaintings).

@ChadSmith1452 I'm very curious about your own paintings. Care to send me a URL? Anyone who claims to paint as realistically as anyone I can name *has* to be amazing, because I can name many realistic painters. I do not consider myself a realistic painter, rather impressionistic.

@ChadSmith1452 oops. I didn't mean to mislead. I was a commercial illustrator since I was 21 or 22. I never used oils becasue my work demanded speed. So I airbrushed, colored with Prismacolor, etc. It wasn't until I was 42 and my illustration career was dead that I turned to oil and fine art, really studying anyone I liked. I, like you, am always learning, and enjoy talking about the discoveries I find. I also try to credit my sources as best I can.

Pretty much what I think of yours; you're both quite skillfull (all the more impressive in your case if indeedyou began in your forties).
I'm primarily an abstract artist, but I apreciiate technical skill, and found that my abstract work was rubbish until I had mastered traditional techniques.
When I want to, I can draw and paint "realistically" about as well as anyone you care to name, but I'm ever on the lookout for new tips and tricks -which is why I'm here.

Meyer is indeed my primary source,; but I've heard the recipe elsewhere many times -indeed far more often than any other- hence my perception (and admittedly it is only my perception) that it is the most standard.

@ChadSmith1452 and what did you think of his work?

@drdarrow
I must confess I've never heard of Richard Schmid, but you've piqued my curiosity and induced me to do a quck search.
