  • justcoolin05 is right on the mark

It is lens flare and nothing more

    as explained where he said

  • This is simply my brother and I observing and commenting on what we saw at the time. Sure we could have scripted it out better but we only had enough time to do one take. We are not claiming we know what is happening in these images, we are simply speculating and sharing what we knew and observed at the time. We really do not talk over each other much in the video. Thanks everyone for your interest.

  • On the NASA SOHO site

    Google

  • I see someone else has already stated it was a lense flare. NASA has gotten this question so many time over the years that they made a video about it. You should do a little research before wasting your time.

Also, Like the other one said, ELENIN is nowhere near Jupiter (as people have said that was) --- with the camera pointed to ANYTHING, ELENIN would not be in view!!!!!

  • lens reflection? and its not turning, its the natural orbit, that from the perspective of the camera looks like its turning

  • It's Goku casting a spirit bomb.

  • @OrlandoFlyBoy lens flares do not produce shock waves

  • Nevermind cant post links, but go to stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov

As for this video, all that you’re witnessing is Mercury to the left and Venus to the right. Venus is about to exit out of camera view, which causes the camera to have this "internal reflection" effect. Whether or not that’s "Elenin" in the middle of the two, I don't know. The split in two appearance could be another "Internal Reflection" defect, or some other anomaly.

  • This is explained in the "image artifacts" section of STEREO's website. They show an exact replica of this posted "Elenin" scenario in the internal reflections section. Here is a link to the site to check out yourself:

  • All the hype about this massive explosive force that made Elenin explode!!!! Not the case. First of all it has been known by NASA and other astronomers that once Comets come into the inner solar system that they have been known to weaken in brightness, break up, or totally disintegrate. Especially, when they get close to the Sun; like Comet Elenin. Second case in point, there are a ton of things in space that can mess with the camera optics.

  • This is very strange. What i don't understand is that this not on the news. Has NASA an explenation? This event should have much more attention!

  • ok that is whats called a gravity wave somthing of that mass .comes with a lot of gravity.

  • @kjcsinger watch?v=iQT0Q0GJn-U goto this video and it will explain everything to you about what you are seeing. You will smack your forehead and say "Now how come I didn't see that before I jumped on the Doomsday bandwagon and drove it off a cliff?"

  • @denotsdan And when mercury exits the FOV it too will create lens defraction. goto watch?v=iQT0Q0GJn-U and it will explain all of it.
