I chose the subject of how to make a cat5 cable because it is something I know how to do that a majority of other people do not. Also being a computer science student anything with computers and technology interests me. I also chose this subject because I felt others would be able to benefit from it by learning how to make their own network cables resulting in them being able to save large amounts of money on overpriced pre-made Ethernet cables. I also hope others benefit by it by realizing they can make any length cord they want in order to design the perfect home network for themselves. I acquired this skill junior year in high school when I designed and constructed the entire network for my home. Since then I have made countless cables for friends, at home and throughout my college experience, and I know for a fact it has saved me lots of money. While this talent comes easy to me, making the video did not. I found it hard to keep it short while getting all the required information into the video. I also found that recording voice descriptions of a task is incredibly hard and took many tries until I was finally happy with one.

  • @kimiZZZumi i found it pretty easy to follow as long as you pause the clip at the color order like he said to do.

  • why to make this video so fast?

its stupid to watch, like you are racing against someone who makes cable faster

  • yea, worked out its a modem, thanks, helping alot :)

  • found out, is a modem

  • Heyyloooo, Im not sure if by router you mean your modem. Because it doesnt seem like your using a router. A modem is the big box that came with your internet shit. Now, The best choice thats price wise is a wireless router made by D-link and it comes with multiple slots and theres a cd that u install on ur computer and it tells u how to set up the router to connect to diffrent Divices and stuff.. u can buy the d-link from sumthn like best buy or future shop

  • modem probably, but all switches on amazon and such look to complicated or, an unessersery amount of slots, i only really need 2 slots to go into 1.

  • a switch, but is your "router" a router or just ur modem?

  • can i just ask, i have one ethernet slot on my router, and the one ethernet slot on my tower is used BY that router. I also have an xbox 360, and If I want to go on xbox live, i have to unplug the routers connection to the pc and plug in the ethernet cable going in from my xbox. If another member of my family wants to go online while im on xbox live, i have to unplug the xbox cable, Can someone please suggest a device that can add an extra ethernet slot on my router?!

  • I find that is easier to separate and arrange the wires in the proper order if I strip the cover back 2 inches, gives more room to get the twists out. Then arrange the wires, hold them flat, THEN cut off the excess. Also, do not use Radio Shack ends, they suck, use IDEAL brand connectors, Home Depot sells them. Home Depot also sells a device for $25.00 that has a transmitter you hook to one end of the cable, a receiver goes onto the other end, it tests the cable to find cross wiring and opens.
