Not seen since last year, here's my WD Austerity trying its hand with the 46 mineral wagons and 2 brakevans up the long incline.

With its sound chip and smoke generator, natural light and scenery, the WD shows what an OO gauge garden railway is all about. The sound might not be deep and throaty, the smoke may only be light and whispy, but it all adds another dimension to a model railway.

  • The smoke effect works well here. I've recently fitted a smoke unit to an old hornby 9F, which I bought at an exhibition.

  • @technoandrew I'm well chuffed with the smoke unit even though it's a little light on the smoke. Disappointed at the running time you get from a single filling but really can't be bothered to start thinking of adding a reservoir so one lap at a time will have to suffice. Are you happy with yours in the 9F?

  • Are you going to add scenery to the part the track is on?

  • @InterCity82 I've got no plans to add scenery to any part of the layout other than what will be 'planted' in the garden alongside. Mind you, I didn't have any plans for a further extension but I am seriously considering adding a terminus station with a preserved railway theme - will have to see how that goes - got enough to keep me busy for the time being.

  • So Realistic

  • @Class59Cameron DCC sound and smoke are only novelties I guess but add the backdrop of the outdoors and it's all added extra realism. Together it all works I think.

  • THATS IS ONE STRONG LOCOMOTIVE !!

  • what smoke unit is it? really good i wont one

  • @digest59 I haven't yet been able to run the 9F with smoke (my Grandad has a large 00 layout in his loft but i don't have an available circuit at the moment). Although I have recently also fitted a West Country class with the smoke and it worked OK, but just a wisp. Maybe I should try putting a resistor in series with the motor.

  • @digest59 cool

  • @digest59 - get someone to film the loco for you? Or operate it whilst you film? :) I'll do it!! lol
