United Nations, New York, April 2009 - 21st Century Show. Lake Chad is now one-fifth of its original size, partially due to changes in climate and human activities such as improper farming methods and over-fishing. By the year 2020, an estimated 35 million people will depend on Lake Chad for their survival. A project to replenish the lake is underway, but its funding is still far from certain.

  • @2canines Not only these people need condoms but the whole Africa with Asia and Latin America. I don't get those people, they have been poor since they were born, furthermore they bear even more and more kids so those kids will be even more poor because of luck food, water and so on. I'm from a family of nine and I i know what its like being poor . My opinion if you can sustain yourself then don get married and if you wanna have sex just buy condoms

  • borrow 6 million dollars from rich arabian country before too late.... we must start the project as soon as posible....

  • They are expecting the population around the lake to double? And disappearance of the lake would be a disaster for 'these people'. May I suggest that doubling of the population is the real disaster.

  • world make should fund the project and invest within the region

  • Lakes have been coming and going for billions of years.

  • I can't believe this project is only being held up by 6 million dollars, but could improve thousands of lives. It is ridiculous how much money gets wasted on pork barrel spending but we cannot organize together as an international community and scrounge a comparatively small amount of 6 million.

  • People just talk about environment but majority of them do not do single ass thing about it. UN should start the campaign from US by banning cigarettes.

Next time pronounce the name correct damn it. It is MUSTAFAA! There is an "a" in there not "aa" MustAAAAfa? No. Mustafaa.

  • How sad, but so complicated a problem to solve!

We all need to use resources..but we are doing so at a rate which exceeds the natural capital. The future keeps looking worse..one day I believe our population growth will be replaced by a J-curve and a drastic fall in populations. This may be cause by pandemics, natural disaster or simply too little food and too many people.
