民視英語新聞報導野草莓學運：王卓鈞、蔡朝明不需免職

2008/11/12晚間23:51民視英語新聞報導馬英九專訪，回應野草莓說王卓鈞、蔡朝明不需免職：
President Ma Ying-jeou reiterated his willingness to sit down for talks with the leader of the opposition, saying he would not set any pre-conditions for such a meeting. And responding to the continued protest by students in Taipei, Ma said he would not fire the security and police chiefs following last weeks violent clashes with protesters but that he was optimistic about amendments to the public assembly laws.


Ma reiterated Wednesday his desire to meet with DPP Chairwoman Tsai Ing-wen.

Perhaps they need more time but our stance is very clear, we will meet. I have not set any pre-conditions, said Ma.


Ma also admitted that aspects of the police work and security arrangements during the visit to Taiwan by Chinese envoy Chen Yunlin were not perfect but he insisted that National Police Agency Director Wang Cho-chiun and National Security Bureau Director Tsai Chao-ming should not be removed from office.


Despite dismissing the student protesters main demand, Ma said the law regarding public assembly will likely be changed, in line with the protesters wishes..

We are optimistic about amending the Parade and Assemble Act from the current system whereby the government issues a permit after a review to one only requiring an application because this accords with my views, said Ma. However, as I emphasized yesterday, the point is not the application method, the point is violence.


The student protesters in Taipei's Liberty Square have waited seven days for an apology from Ma and Premier Liu Chao-shiuan for what they deemed police brutality during last week's protests. Whether Ma's reply Wednesday will be enough for them to end their protest vigil, remains to be seen.
