I bet the other competitors hung themselves knowing that they had lost to an orange,talking animal with a tail who's name is Daxter.They were probably so embarassed after that race.

Dark powers you only get if you collect enough Metal Head skull gems, and you can miss the Peacemaker if you don't collect it from the shooting range as soon as Krew informs you (through the communicator) that he left you a gift there (there's an icon on the radar).
