Its interesting that so many pre-Apollo imagined trips to the moon included a female co-pilot, with Dale Arden from Flash Gordon being the typical fly-girl, loyal to her man, physically vulnerable, and yet technically capable of making calculations on the rocket ship. Anyways, enjoy this short clip from the pilot of a short-lived TV show, Radar Men from the Moon.

  • Clearly, this was not written by Robert Heinlein, and therefore cannot be mistaken for Destination Moon (LOL).

  • Oh man, memories.

  • I remember "King of the Rocket Men" (but there was only one). This serial is hilarious! So bad it is good!

  • Answered my own question - found the original Chapter 1 on here with the same music in situ.

Alex Courage's Star Trek does indeed rip this off (unless he wrote this stuff as a struggling young composer - it's kind of similar to a lot of 60s TREK).

Love how in the original serial Republic Serials bill this as " introducing Commander Cody - a NEW character".

Yeah... in an old costume. Anyone remember "King of the Rocket Men (1949)? :)

  • This is "Retik the Moon Menace" - the cut down tv movie, released in 1966, of the 1952 cliffhanger serial Radar Men From The Moon.

I loving a section at 1m14. Just as the Captain says "safety belts fastened" there's a trumpet solo that IS the first five notes of the "Star Trek" fanfare... you can't help hum the rest of the riff!.

Who's the uncredited composer on this, and is it the same score as the original serial (or a 60s redub)?.

  • That's what I call a pre-flight.

  • I was born in 1953, and while I have heard of Radar Men From the Moon, I'd never seen it that I recall. I am highly impressed with the special effects, given the time. Well, the moving ship and the flying guy. The inside of the spaceship was at least as cheesy as any other period piece of this ilk. Thanks so much for posting this - I'd love to see more!

  • Damn it I want a rocket suit.

  • @paco0153 Ice Dance :)

  • The take off scene and the flying suit scene looked pretty good. Thanks for the post.
