Brinton Averil Smith, cellist. Ernest Bloch's Suite No. 1 for violoncello solo (1956). From a faculty recital at Rice's Shepherd School of Music on 3/15/10. Other works on the program included solo cello works by Reger, Sibelius, Rozsa, Ysaye, Cassado and transcriptions for solo cello of works by Paganini and Chopin. This Bloch Suite was written for and dedicated to my teacher Zara Nelsova who gave one of the first fully solo cello recitals as her NY debut. This recital was dedicated to her memory.
The cello is one of the world's greatest instruments..and you have mastered it...outstanding...
