"Michi" by Keiko Abe
Juan Alamo, marimba
October 4, 2007
========================
This piece, like many of Keiko Abe's pieces, is based on an improvisation. The piece starts with an improvisation based on a rhythmic motive that connects with a middle section which is from new melodic material. The piece concludes with the same improvisational material used on the opening section. It uses the notes A, B, C, D, E as a motive cell and it is the main sources for my improvisation.

  • It's a weird version of michi :s

  • Man, you really make those bars sing. I definitely dig this version. I'm playing this for Texas S&E, and this is probably one of the better recordings I've heard for it. I'll definitely remember this when I consider improvs

  • mate thats absolutely beautiful playing, this is definitely one of the best recordings ive heard of that piece and has such an awesome first section. nice impro too but i'm not sure if i agree with the impro throughout the whole piece, keiko abe does say that she only wants impro up to where the melody kicks in, oh well its still a friking awesome performance so props for that

  • Man I love this piece :)

  • Nice dynamic contrasts and all that stuff. I like the improvisations you do as well.

    The only thing I'd say is try to move a little better between different parts (such as when you go to those high chords). Instead of finishing one section, stopping and walking over to the other side of the marimba there might be some way to lead into it better, dunno.

    Good stuff anyway.

  • Hi Pedro - wow - really nice job. Really good accuracy and wonderful sense of line. A really great performance. Great ideas re the improv throughout too. Sincerely, Greg Giannascoli

  • ok i had to comment this again because it really is a beautifulversion of the song I'm learning it now for college auditionsandican wait to start putting my own touch to it.

  • this is defnitely michi moron..if you watched more then 3 minutes ofthis video.. or readthe shee music you'd know the first section is esspresivo... it's all interpretation... and its really really good.

  • The musicality is very good. Nice job.
