I recommend playing more on the conservative side. Therefore, focusing on top spin shots, playing lots of cross court, barely using risk shots and running. Basically, being patient and waiting for the right opportunity to end the point. Very much like Rafael Nadal's style of playing.

Here are some essential strategy tips:

* Play cross court 80% of the time and use top spin, even if playing cross court means hitting to your opponent. Playing cross courts is less risky than playing down the line and usually makes your opponent run. It also gives you time to reposition yourself on the court.
* Be patient. Playing conservatively usually leads to long rallies, which tires your opponent. Moreover, your opponent will start making mistakes and you often get an opportunity to hit a winner. 
* If you get the opportunity to hit a winner, use it. In this situation, use a flat shot.
* Anticipate your opponent's strokes. Move early into the corner where you anticipate your opponent's stroke to get an advantage and move into a good position for your next stroke.
* Move back into the middle after every shot, unless you anticipate your opponent's stroke.
* Use top spin strokes most of the time. Top spin strokes are safer than flat strokes and allow you to hit a good angle. Furthermore, it takes the speed out of your opponent's strokes.
* Avoid using risk shots.
* Run for every ball and never give up. Even if the situation seems hopeless. You can always turn a match around and win.
* Always serve hard on your first serve. Either in the middle or outside. The second serve should usually not be a risky shot.
* Usually, you should stand slightly behind the baseline.
* Mix up your shots once in a while, by using slice or flat shots. It might force your opponent to make a mistake.
* Drop shots are often not very helpful.

You should upgrade your players abilities regularly. You can earn bonus experience points by fulfilling special objectives during matches. You should distribute about 60% of your experience points to the "Defensive Baseliner" category, 30% to the "Offensive Baseliner" category and 10% to the "Serve and Volley" category.

The objective will come up some time during the match.

Perform at least 1 passing shot with a Power Shot before the end of the game. In order to do so, be patient and wait for your chance. Play a lot of cross court and finally hit a Power Shot cross court.

You mean how long it takes to get to Grand Slams? It all depends on you and how fast you rise on the ranks, if you just wanna speed to Grand Slams you can always play on very easy so you win everything fast, but that would be boring!
