Chapter 5

Recap-
A burglar broke in to the house when only demi was there. Demi was shot and rushed to the hospital. Demi found out she can't have children. Now she is in surgery.
Joe is in the waiting room with Selena, Kevin, Zoe, and Nick.

Selena: How long is the surgery supposed to take?
Joe: I don't know.
Selena: Oh.
Nick: Did she seem like she was in a lot of pain?
Joe: No.
Kevin: Joe? can I talk to you for a second?
Joe: Yeah. sure.

Kevin pulls him to the side.

Kevin: What are you not telling us?
Joe: Huh?
Kevin: Come on, I am your big brother. I know somethings wrong.
Joe: Its nothing.
Kevin; *gives him "the eye"*
Joe: Demi was shot in the uteres. She can't have kids.
Kevin: Oh my god. Does she know?
Joe: Yeah, the doctor told her. She is devastated.
Kevin: How about you?
Joe: What?
Kevin: I know you wanted kids too.
Joe: Yeah...
Kevin: Ok man. Thanks for telling me.
Joe: Sure.

They go back and sit down. The girls are staring at them.

Joe: What?
Selena: Joe, she's my best friend. You need to tell me if there is something else wrong.
Joe: .....Demi can't have kids....
Zoe: Oh my god.
Selena: What?!?! She wants kids so bad.
Joe: I know.
Zoe: I am so sorry Joe.

They wait about another hour. The doctor comes out. Joe jumps up.

Joe: Is she ok?
Doctor- The surgery went very well. She will be awake in about an hour.
Joe: Thank you so much.
Doctor-No problem. I can tell you really love her.
Joe: Yeah, i do....
Doctor- When she wakes up depending on how well she feels, you can probably take her home by tonight.
Joe: Ok. Can I sit with her.
Doctor- Sure go ahead.

Joe goes in and sits next to Demi.

Joe: *whispers* I am so sorry. I shouldn't have left you. I knew something was wrong but I left anyway. Now we can't have a baby.
Selena: Its not your fault.
Joe: *turns around*
Selena: You know its not your fault. Its the burglar's fault.
Joe: But I felt something was up. And Nick did too. I should have..
Demi: Listen to selena. She's right.
Joe: *looks at Demi and smiles* You're awake!
Demi: Well, I think I am. *giggles*
Selena: Hey! How you feelin?
Demi: A little sore. But not that bad.
Joe: The doc said that if you are feeling ok we can take you home tonight.
Demi: Oh...
Joe: Its ok. Kevin got a guy to come fix the window, and clean up the house.
Demi: How much money did the man take?
Joe: It doesn't matter.
Selena: Yeah, as long as your ok.
Demi: Joe, I was so scared. I didn't know what else to do except give him what he wanted.
Joe: I know. You did the right thing.
Selena: I wonder who he was.
Demi: He sounded really familiar.
Joe: He did?
Demi: Yeah, I can't remember where I might have heard him from.
Selena: Could you tell what he looked like at all?
Demi: Umm...OH! He had a tattoo of a bird on his wrist. Like an eagle.
Joe; Ok, thats great! We can tell the police that.

Doctor comes in. You feeling good?

Demi: Yeah, can I go home?
Doctor: Yep. Do you have someone who can take care of you?
Demi: *looks at Joe*
Joe: I'll take good care of her. *smiles*
Selena: If not. I'll beat him up.
Joe:*laughs*
Selena: What? You think I can't?
Demi: Joe, don't answer that.
*they all laugh*

Doctor- Ok, you don't have any clothes to change into. So, does someone want to go back to the house and get her some?
Selena: No, I have a warm-up suit in the back of my car. she can wear that. I'll be right back. *leaves*
Doctor- I will go get the realease form. *leaves*
Demi: *talking to Joe* Wait, don't you have a concert tonight?
Joe: We cancelled.
Demi: No. Why?
Joe: Because I'm taking care of you.
Demi: *smiles* You would really cancel a concert for me?
Joe: Of course. Come on, the girl I love was shot today. What else am I supposed to do? *smiles*
