Terence McKenna: Interview, Hawaii - October 1998 - 1/5

Terence McKenna describes Novelty Theory to director John Hazard with an elaboration of its core principles involving hyper-complexification and the compression of Time. He holds forth on the correspondences between the structure of the DNA molecule and the Chinese I-Ching, then shows how his notion of an Archaic Revival leads from the theories of mind and the art movements of the early 20th century to the Shaman as the quintessential figure of the 21st century, with psychedelic substances being the bridge between these worldviews.

By way of explaining why he's finally releasing this footage, Director John Hazard has the following to say:

"On meeting Terence: I had just finished shooting a film which profiled George Wallace for American Experience, and I was looking for a subject for a film that I might make that would engage me in a compelling way. I stumbled upon Terence and Novelty Theory, and I liked the correspondences between his work and the Mayan calendar.

Terence agreed to work with me, and I went to his home on the Big Island of Hawaii to conduct what I assumed would be the first of several interviews. We were just beginning to work together when he was diagnosed with a brain tumor.

I've always believed that my interview with Terence worked especially well as a long form conversation, because of his gifted way with language. When Jeremy Narby began his 'Awakening the Cosmic Serpent' Evolver Intensives sessions, I was struck by how engaging his long form interviews were, and I noticed how week after week his guests would tell a story about Terence. I'm inspired to release this interview on Reality Sandwich within the context of Jeremy's Evolver Intensives.

With the psychedelic movement undergoing a renaissance, many in the new generation, the core participants who are finding their way to the Evolver/RS nexus, were children when Terence conducted his interview with me. I think this audience may consider his remarks to be prescient."

ha ha i uploaded this a month before you and you have 3 times as many views already? no harm in having it up twice i suppose its a good one! its one of my favourites out of all of them actually, theres something about it that i cant put my finger on... maybe because its a one to one interview instead of him talking to a crowd, seems more personal

@BobBurnnquist Far from it. If I heard about his novelty theory when he first proposed it I would have thought his ideas are a little far fetched, but here we are in 2011 with the world becoming more and more complex and weird. Natural disasters are unprecedented as well as other events such as economies crashing and wars beginning. We are heading towards "the omega point" and it's never been so clear.

Is that Terence's watch beeping twice every 10 or 15 minutes?

If so, I find it fascinating that he would do that. What might his purpose be in doing so?

Time is an illusion of continuity created by our consciousness. Our consciousness shifts constantly through static parallel realities of the same one 'now' moment. In a few seconds we shift through billions of these realities, and depend ending on our frequency we, in this dimension, witness between 60ish to 1000. Rather like a film. The purpose of time is to experience our created unfoldment.. slowed down..to a v.low frequency, in contrast to non-physical, where creation is instantaneous.

McKenna often emphasized that it wasn't that important that we believe it happens in 2012. The important point to be made is that it IS happening - in our lifetime, right before our eyes. The significant events are everywhere around, when we observe with enough acuity.

@likeOMGitsUNLTD I agree :) there's a guy called 'Evasius' who posts very good vids of the timewave zero. I also found something interesting on a website. Apparently the resonance will be very clear in september 2011 cause its linked with the economic collapse of 1929. The wars in the middle east will probly get more aggressive (sad to say) but its only in very very weird way for the good later :) greetz from Belgium!
