I'm from Belgium and I love those roadtrains,my dad drives a volvo FH12 420 but it's chipped to almost 600 horses.but I can't believe that you Americans,Australians,... didn't make an open exhaust on your trucks, this makes a nicer sound.just go to YOUTUBE and search for volvo FH16 520 with straith exhaust, scania v8 580 164 (3).Thats the European style.

best is v8 740 engine

yes but this was 1999 on the 660hp wasn't available yet....that's all they got 9 years ago
-
ive been there and its pretty scary stuff, just gotta hope the drive shaft doesnt brake.

mstruckerboy you are the stupid one. this aint an interstate hwy. this is how its done in heavy haul off road conditions. Here in canada, its normal to have a d8 cat or grader help you up a hill, with chains on, in the summer! the road is what it is, the load is what it is. you cant change either one, you just do what you gotta do.

Finally somewhere, where they can use the all the horsepower. They should try the 660hp FH16 =)

Does anyone know what tyre size in the tractor?.
Is the same size in the trailer?
Maybe 12R24?

Hi chiquitojo.
you are right 12R24, the Kenworth however had the advantage of 13R25!!!

Maybe too long to downshift from 6ªHigh to 4ªLow

With 180 ton and 10% climb its the only option, and from 4 low direct into 1 low, and thats pretty difficult to do...

To be honest with you, i have my doubts about those drivers... they were probably pulled of a mule and put in that truck cab without proper driving education....
Now i know why Volvo was bidding for Tatra offroad truck factory a few years back, when it was for sale...
They could probably use a Tatra T-817 8x8 army transporter, with large Michelin industrial tires, Twin-disk 10 speed automatic and 840 hp V12...

Drivers here is actually one of the best in the world, not many other places they do heavy climbs with 200 tons.
Previously onj this site they have had special built 8x8 Daf's, they didnt last long...
