On May 1 2003 George Bush, the president of the United States, gave a speech on the aircraft USS Abraham Lincoln declaring an "end to major combat operations" in Iraq.

Five years on with violence continuing unabated across the country Al Jazeera's Hoda Abdel Hamid - in a special five part series - looks at the major events of the Iraq war.

does it really matter ? look at history, .. be it conquest or occupation.. nothing changes.. humanity has never changed, misunderstanding, equates to fear.. terror, anger.. hatred.. death.. and the cycle is ever continuing.. the greatest example.. ? Religion, a 2000 or more year war.. but anyway, whatever say, whatever think is ignored.. because, it never suites the taste of the moment.. the humanity is destined to oblivion, and we deserve it.. ignorance is a bliss.

@raulitech Yeah but have to think if they did not do that and the soviets could of took over afganistian and then Iraq and Iran taking over middle east oil then sparking ww3!!! War breaks out in europe and China attacks Japan and the USA........... A few days in WW3 people start firing nukes and BOOM over!!!!! They did what they did at the time for a reason it was not stupid!!!!

The Middle East as a whole needs to be policed by a greater power since the decline of the British Empire the areas once controlled by Britain have disintergrated most have degenerated into violence if Arabs cannot govern themselves then it will be done for them as this documentary shows,they need to stop blaming America and have a look at their own people and the way they go about running their states the story is the same the world over this is not a problem exclusive to the Arabs.

The west is damned if we do and damned if we dont Sadaam was living on borrowed time he narrowly escaped from the 1st Gulf war and continued to commit crimes against his own people and others he had commited an act of genocide (however small the scale it was still in principal genocide) against the Kurds using chemical weapons weather or not he had weapons of mass destruction he had to be removed.
