Mr. Wrestling II was convinced that Magnum T.A. was going to go heel because he teamed up with Randy Savage, who was a heel at the time. They made it to the finals and lost to Pistol Pez Whatley and Butch Reed. II saw a photo of them together and Magnum looked comfortable with Savage. This was the last Thanksgiving Night Tournament ever.
I used to watch this program religiously after discovering it in either September or October of 1983. I was hooked on it the minute I laid eyes on it! I also remember those announcements for the Omni in Atlanta matches. I could always look forward for them announcing big caliber matches with main event ramifications. That was awesome watching the late Pistol Pez Whatley come into the ring and attck Jake the Snake Roberts. That was one of my dream matches of that federation. Great memories!
@mrhollister09 The NWA was not a promotion but the governing body over many of the wrestling promotions in the country. Georgia was run by Ole Anderson and Mid Atlantic (which promoted Starrcade) was run by Jim Crockett. Eventually, Crockett took over Georgia in 1985 and merged it with Mid Atlantic to form World Championship Wrestling, which was eventually bought by Ted Turner.
