The Sanctus, like the rest of the Mass, makes a subtle and elaborate use of canon, the device by which one voice follows another, in imitation, but here with variations in note durations.

  • magic stuff - and their recording of Missa Ecce Ancilla with early instruments is simply fabulous

  • This whole mass is mensuration canon. When there are 4 voices, two are written (usually the Sop and Ten) and two 'realized' (usually the Alt and Bass). The Sop and Ten are written in 2 of the 4 prevailing time signatures of the day, the other two parts are realized by reading the same music, possibly at a different pitch, in one of the other 2 standard time signatures, so that in 4 voices there are 4 different time signatures.

  • Early Music at its best. The sound quality is overwhelming and the technique of polyphonic note duration is awesome. Thank you so much.

  • Magnificent, as always.

    Thank you dear Kitty.

  • Graet music! Thank you dear Kitty. Big hug ;)

  • so beautiful!!!!!!

  • Truly inspiring piece of music, sweet "bubbly". It sounds as though it were recorded during the Communion at a Catholic Mass. I simply love to listen to it.

    Thank you so much!
