6 Nov 2000 - In business for 50 years in the same building on the corner of Main St. in Carthage, Tenn., barber L.B. Carter is quick to explain why he plans to vote for native son Al Gore. "He may have been raised mostly in Washington, but he actually has country roots...He comes from where we do." Carter still speaks fondly of local hero Albert Gore Sr. and is just one of the vice president's many proud supporters in this tiny Tennessee town. And even though Gore is rarely seen around Carthage these days, Carter intones the pride -- and optimism -- many locals exude for Gore. "I think that's quite a feat to have someone from this little country town to make president of the United States."
LB Carter. ... Gave me my first haircut in 1967. Died in 2010. When he died, it was the end of an ear [sic].
