"Spoon" is the name of a song from the krautrock group Can's 1972 album Ege Bamyasi.

The song reached number six on the German chart in early 1972 due to being the signature theme of the popular German television thriller Das Messer (after Francis Durbridge). It was also featured more recently in Lynne Ramsay's film adaptation of Morvern Callar (2004).

Can played a free concert at Kölner Sporthalle in Cologne on February 3, 1972 after the success of "Spoon".

Popular indie rock band Spoon took their name from this song, as did Can themselves for their own record label, Spoon Records.

"Spoon" was also remixed by both Sonic Youth and System 7 for the Sacrilege album.

HISTORY:
Can was an experimental rock band formed in Cologne, West Germany in 1968. Later labeled as one of the first "krautrock" groups, they transcended mainstream influences and incorporated strong minimalist and world music elements into their often psychedelic music.

Can constructed their music largely through free improvisation and editing, which bassist Holger Czukay referred to as "instant compositions". They had occasional commercial success, with singles such as "Spoon" and "I Want More" reaching national singles charts. Through albums such as Tago Mago (1971) and Ege Bamyasi (1972), the band exerted a considerable influence on avant-garde, experimental, underground, ambient, punk, new wave and electronic music.

lyrics:
Carrying my own in the afternoon,
Hiding a spoon she will be soon.
Waiting fork weeds alive,
Spends me her joke, she slips me alive.

Carrying my own in the afternoon,
Hiding a spoon she will be soon.
Waiting fork weeds alive,
Spends me her joke, she slips me alive.

Oh, sitting on my chair where nobody want to care,
Oh, sitting on my chair where nobody want to care.

Carrying my own in the afternoon,
Hiding a spoon she will be soon.
Waiting fork weeds alive,
Spends me her joke, she slips me alive.

Oh, sitting on my chair where nobody want to care,
Oh, sitting on my chair where nobody want to care,
Oh, sitting on my chair where nobody want to care,
Oh, sitting on my chair where nobody want to care,
Oh, sitting on my chair where nobody want to care,
Oh, sitting on my chair where nobody want to care,
Oh, sitting on my chair where nobody want to care,
Oh, sitting on my chair where nobody want to care,
Oh, sitting on my chair where nobody want to care,
Oh, sitting on my chair where nobody want to care.

  • Absolutes Spitzenvideo.
