  • hey I have a quick question. i am looking to purchase either a Art VLA, or an MPA...but only one (due to budget) Which one would you say is more beneficial for recording good vocals? I have a tc Konnekt 8 preamp and mics so far.

  • @skleung Hmm... good question. I would say(for me) go with the MPA if you can keep a decent control of you dynamics while singing. You get some pretty sweet features with the mpa and can easily upgrade the tubes for a really nice sound for the budget. one thing to remember with tube gear is as long as it is on, you are burning your tubes. Good tubes will last a couple years, but if you leave it on when not using it, you will accelerate your time.

  • do you guys regret buying the mxl? should i go with a nt2a? nt1a audio technica 4040?

  • @DrumNBum No, never have, especially since it was only like $60. I had that 990 for six years and recorded everything with it. I was able to get some good sound from it (with some coaxing), but we have since upgraded to the Mojave audio 201 fet.

  • good tip on the mini vocal booth. self build ?

  • @mrrandom177 My buddy built it out of 2 inch formed fiberglass pipe insulation, then covered it in fabric to keep the fiberglass out of our lungs! It works really well. I think Auralex has something similar in foam.

  • @voicetospirit Hey thanks. Unfortunately I tend to have pretty varied dynamics when I sing. I guess i'll have to look into it some more before I decide. Thanks for the reply though :)

  • that thing is way cooler than an iso booth and much cheaper.

  • @attorks Thank you.

  • Thanks for sharing. I like the sound.
