Biography
Davis had an outstanding collegiate wrestling career at Penn State, finishing in 5th place nationally in the 197 lb weight class as a junior in 2007 [1] and then winning an individual (197 lbs) NCAA title in 2008. He finished with an overall wrestling record of 116-17 while at Penn State and was a four-time NCAA Division I All-American. [2] Upon graduating from Penn State, he immediately began training with the newly formed LionHeart MMA team, coached by Jeff Rockwell (BJJ), TJ Turner (Boxing), Mark "FightShark" Miller, (Kickboxing/MuayThai), Matt Kocher (Wrestling/S&C) and Ryan Gruhn (Muay Thai) in State College, PA. [3] His primary training partners were Paul "The Gentleman" Bradley, Lou Armezzani, and Jim "Kid Samurai" Hettes, though he also trained with many visiting fighters such as Ed "Pee Wee" Herman, Shannon Slack, Dominick Cruz, and Jon "Bones" Jones. When the LionHeart team disbanded in 2009, Phil moved to San Diego, California to continue his training with Alliance MMA and took his blossoming career to the next level. Always a dedicated student of the arts, Phil earned his blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Lloyd Irvin in 2009.[4] In 2009 he won the No Gi World Jiu-Jitsu Championship as a blue belt in the 221lbs, Super Heavyweight division.[5]

Davis beat Tim Boetsch on November 20, 2010 at UFC 123 by submission via modified kimura, which in the post-fight interview was nicknamed the "Mr.Wonderful" by Joe Rogan.[15]

  • @Rockagito lol information from wikipedia

  • "As a tribute to Kimura's victory, the reverse ude-garami technique he used to defeat Gracie, has since been commonly referred to as the Kimura lock, or simply the Kimura, in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and, more recently, mixed martial arts circles." Learn right. Nerds, no sense of humor.
