recorded 11/2/1936 I have not been able to locate a whole lot of biographical information about Carlos Molina - but judging by the number of records he made, he was apparently quite popular during the 1930s and was active into at least the 1950s. In 1930, he served as music director for the US produced Spanish language film Así es la vida. In 1949, Molina and his band starred in the musical short film Rhythm of the Mambo. He also had bit roles as a bandleader in several films during the 1940s and 1950s. (information from Dismuke's web site)

  • Carlos was under contract to the Ambassador Hotel in Hollywood from 1932-34. One of his best records and a good seller in 1932 was Karabali

  • I have that one posted on my channel too.

  • Carlos Molina's father was Dr. Pedro Antonio Molina, Colombia's foreign minister from 1917-1919 and later the Governor of Valle Del Cuaca Columbia. Carlos Immigrated to New York around 1920 wth his sister Sophia, a pianist, and his mother, Lucia. He later moved to Hollywood.

  • Great information! There is not a lot out there about this great orchestra leader. Do you know where I can find a photo of him?

  • It is my good fortune that his sister Sophia, was my Great Grandmother. Although my Grandfather remembered him well, I have not seen any surviving family photos with him in them. If any surface in the future, I would be happy to send you a copy.

  • That would be so great! I have a couple more Carols pieces that I have not posted yet. Maybe you will find something before I post them. Thanks for visiting my channel.

  • @kostgian Great music ♫♪♫♪♫... Beautiful photos... Nice video, many thanks Kostas for sharing!

  • great artist!full of exotic/latin sensibility!!!!!!!

  • My father was an enthusiast for Latin music, and he said that prior to Xavier Cugat, Carlos Molina and Enrique Madriguera were the top bands for Latin music in the early '30s. I think my father may have danced at one of Carlos Molina's performances; he did see Enrique Madriguera at the Cocoanut Grove one night in 1931.

  • Delicate and beautiful tango. Thanks.
