Jeep Cherokee on fire stockton beach Australia

On Australia Day 2007 I was out for a drive in my Hummer and stopped to help this guy put out his engine fire which starts off small, but the bonnet release fails and the truck goes up in flames very fast. By the time I was putting my gear back in my truck it bursted into flames.

I searched and seems this happens fairly often in this jeep, wonder if they have looked into it, it would only be a matter of time before someone is hurt. Driver said the truck didnt over heat but noticed it was working hard, he thinks one of the transmission line broke and sprayed oil on the engine starting the fire, it went up fast as you can see...

I drove the family back to a service station where a friend was coming to pick them up, I could'nt really take them home (although I offered) but we have 8 people in my truck and and only 6 seat belts...they were shak'n up but ok, they had insurance but didnt think it would be valued too much, they had a son and  little baby girl who was asleep, they had enough time to grab most of there gear,

I had an extinguisher from my truck, but nothing could be done, the bonnet latch had broken or heat disabled it,

Makes me think I'll buy a fire extenguisher for my Jeep !!! No joke if a fuel line break in the wood... Txs Youtube for the intelligent idea !!!

the same thing just happened to my buddys jeep. it almost caused a forest fire but the fire trucks showed up just in time to spray down the jeeps. it started the same way from what we can tell. the jeep was working really hard and as soon as we put it in reverse nothing happened exept for flames. i was riding shot gun and when it happened i was looking out the window and almost right away there were flames up past the window. everyone got out alright but i wouldnt recomend an automatic jeep

@australianhummer I will never buy a jeep cherokee after seeing this electrical fire gone wrong do you think Jeep knows they have a problem with there cars catching fire in my my mind I will think from now on jeep catches fire and keep away from riding in one of these fire pron 4x4

My 2008 Grand Cherokee burned in my driveway all by itself and I have it on Youtube to prove it. it was electrical in the front of the engine on the passenger side....

all im saying man is all cars have there issues, my XJ has been a dream but i always go prepared anyway, the last thing you want is a $100,000 land rover, and the emergency petrol canister in the back catches fire, and your stuck with no emergency gear to get you out of the situation, i know my 2008 mazda 3 wont catch fire driving around the city, but i always keep a dry chem fire extinguisher just in case
