"The Albert - Slice of Heaven"

NOTE: THIS VID IS INTENSE & NEEDS TO BE WATCHED FULLSCREEN IF POSSIBLE AS SO MUCH IS GOING ON

This is the promo as intended with all originally planned effects realized and rendered.

No harm came to any of the 'Albert Sports Bar' regulars during the making of this video and the Bar Staff have suffered no ill effects from being turned into Toons.

This video has been brought to you with much pleasure by Zakk Rokkanno of Maximum Impact.

Insight backgrounding 'The Albert - Slice of Heaven'

The Albert, with it's long history in the Manawatu region is easily known as "the Best Little Sports Bar in Palmerston North.

It was one of my locals in it's heyday, where 'The Albert" was synonymous with much the best live band entertainment in the region.

When this opportunity came up I proudly jumped at the chance to create a music video representing my old-time favorite watering hole and after a few filming sessions harassing the locals I wound up with over 3.5 hours of footage.

So many great shots to fit in only 4 minutes.

When Carla suggested 'Slice of Heaven' as the song I immediately saw the solution. YES!!!.

Dave Dobbyn's Iconic and timeless track was a sonic wonderland of audio cues providing many opportunities to weave the many actions of the colorful characters I had filmed into the pulsing rhythm of "Slice Of Heaven".

There were a number themes underscoring 'The Albert Experience' I wished to represent in the video that were easily tied in to the clear-cut rhythmic sections of Dave's masterpiece.

The first task was to create a 4 minute edit of the song with a hard-close finishing it off. Hopefully Dave approves of my version.

Next I tied themes to each of the sections of the song.

After that clips were chosen to represent each section and I had hours and sleepless nights of great fun linking the actions of the colorful "Albert" characters to the myriad rhythms and audio cues in 'Slice' so that the video flowed and pulsed along with the music.

Two well known locals, cafe-owner Jacko and country-styled Lauren were chosen to lead this romp through 'The Albert Sports Bar' lifestyle, roles which they 'raaked up to the max' for full effect.

The result is a multi-layered and fast paced psychedelic rollercoaster ride from start to finish that would have it's viewers either mesmerized or running for the hills.

Admittedly not for the faint-hearted, this is a video that can be watched many times with new things to notice with every new viewing.

"The Albert - Slice of Heaven - The Ultimate edition" is best watched in full-screen mode as there is so much going on in each layer at any given time. Its deliberately designed to leave the viewer both breathless and energized.

For those are interested, a breakdown of the video's song-sections to themes.....

- 'Daa daa' sections: These introduce the bar and its characters at the beginning and portray a more general flow as well as highlighting the current national rugby frenzy in a segment near the end.

- 'Ooh Ooh' sections: These showcase the fun and humor of the bars regulars as they interact with each other as well as the camera / viewer.

- 'Verse' sections: These showcase what the Albert has to offer with 'Verse Block 1' presenting Karaoke, Pool, Pokies & Darts while 'Verse Block 2' covers Quiz nights, Poker, TAB & Munchie-munching.

- 'Howdy Angel' sections: These segments, presented in cartoon form, highlight the dedicated Albert staffers as they 'make it all happen'.

- 'Chorus' sections: These are a psychedelic riff on the original video's chorus sections, with special guest appearances by 'Dog' from 'Footrot Flats'

- 'Have Fun' sections: These show recaps of the 'Albert's' offerings and of some of the colorful characters seen throughout the clip.
