Here is a beautiful song by one of South Korea's most renowned traditional singers, the gorgeous Kim Young-im. This song is a South Korean local version of the song Arirang, probably the most famous and popular Korean folk song with many versions (this one has been sung in Jeongseon County for more than 600 years). Arirang is an ancient native Korean word with no direct modern meaning. "Ari" means "beautiful", "Rang" can mean "dear". Because of those words, Arirang could be interpreted to mean "beautiful dear". Arirang is a mountain in Korea.
The song performed here comes from the beautiful Korean film "Bom yeoreum gaeul gyeoul geurigo bom" ("Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring") from 2004.
Listen to the incredibly powerful voice of Kim Young-im and enjoy the beauty of Korean music and culture!

  • I dream for this song to be sang when Reunification occurs. I really, whole heartedly hope so. Until then, let's pray for God to do His will with our nation.

Greetings to the uploader, excellent video

  • @wraspita

    Thank you!

    My prayers are with you!

  • hi all

thx john but just an fyi, it's spelled jeongseon arirang (정선 아리랑) not jeonseon.

  • Yiou're perfectly right, thank you for the correction!

  • Mind blowing, as is indeed the film, "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring", in which it features. Once heard (and seen), never forgotten.

The song gets right under your skin. I like the uncompromising "projection" of the singer's voice, which takes on an extra meaning in the film.

    Thanks for uploading this, johnxxx20000.
