The atmosphere of this movie makes it so dark and unsettling, there is something about black and white filming that makes it work in horror movies.

Whenever I come back to this film I'm always surprised by how much humor is in it compared to the other Bergman films I've seen. It was nice when I rewatched this in film class, and it had the whole theaterlaughing : )
