Huw and Carolyn Thomas of Cornwall, England, began their ride from Vancouver, Canada on Aug. 8 and are traveling through Florida via Canada, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas. Cities they passed through on their way to Tampa include Denver, Dallas, Jackson, Mobile and Tallahassee.
After negotiating the Canadian Rockies, the couple crossed the U.S. border at the end of August and have been averaging 50 miles a day in the saddle. Along the way, they are working to promote ShelterBox by giving talks to schools, clubs and other community organizations about their trip and the vital work of the charity.
Huw, a 44-year-old former journalist and teacher, said, "It's been an amazing trip so far. We've seen some wonderful scenery and met some great people. The welcome we've had along the way has more than made up for the aching muscles and long days on the bike."
"We're looking forward to reaching Florida in time for Christmas, but this is just the first part of our trip," he said. "Next, we're going to ride the length of New Zealand and from Brisbane to Melbourne in Australia. Then it's back home for the European leg of our trip."
"We reckon it will be the end of July 2011 when we finally get to ShelterBox's U.K. headquarters and finish our ride," Carolyn said. "By then we hope to have spoken to many thousands of people about ShelterBox to spread the word about the fantastic work this charity does to help victims of disasters all over the world."

Congratulations Huw & Carolyn from a fellow Trans American cycling, Shelterbox supporting Brit. I agree totally with your comments about how the American people treat you, it was one of the highlights of my Trans Am too. Good luck with the rest of your journey. Stuart midlifecyclist.me.uk
