Callan method is very good to hold conversation and great advantage of this method is that students are not to afraid to speak English but less teach spelling.so thoroughly does not teach

New generation? Who are you trying to fool? This is so outdated, that I can barely believe someone still uses this so called "method" to teach a language. And for those who know at least a little bit about language acquisition and language learning, it is easy to recognize this Callan method as actually a technique mostly used in the Audiolingualism method. Used as technique, ok, I would agree to that. But as a method, only, it's even ridiculous!

As an experienced EFL teacher (8 years plus) this method would be useless in an absolute beginners' lesson. Notice her speed (she is speaking very fast). In fact, parrot fashion repetition has merits in relation to pronunciation/phonics/phonetic
s but is by no means a comprehensive methodology. What about the other 2 skills (reading, writing)? -
the part where she mentions the body... reminiscing of: am i bothered?, are you bothered, im not bothered.. etc

Hey! Teacher! Leave those...
This method is purely stimulus and response. Zero cognitive depth. Not a good method to be used exclusively but it can be blended into the presentation part of a lesson. No good for recycling because thinking around a language structure or chunk happens at the later stages of learning. I've used similar methods at beginner level but I'd never use it above pre int. However, some learners swear that they've done well in fce all thanks to Callan!

This instruction goes against so many principles, theories and research studies in the fields of ESL/EFL and Education in general. Wow. This is BAD language teaching.

I agree with VIRTLANTIS. I was voted as the Best Teacher of this method back in Nov 2006 so I know what I'm talking about. I trained others in it and made sure to tell them to introduce a more humane aspect into it.
It's for parrots :)

this seems to be an aggressive way of teaching a language...not allowing others to speak and instead talking over them is disrespectful in my opinion...it may be effective to a certain extent...but the students here are not treated with respect...the aim instead seems to be to stuff english into their brains...like a sort of aggressive spoonfeeding...brainwashing comes to mind...

@ashjojo123 No good teacher of any experience will say they use a single 'method' to teach. No good school will say they use a single 'method' to teach. This is all bogus from a pedagogical point of view. The reason why 99% of learners will defend this method is because they are NOT teachers and do not know they are being sold SNAKE-OIL. This 'method' surely hinders real language learning. It is NOT communicative and it does NOT reflect what we know about language acquistion.

@infesta270 The method is good for beginners and intermediate learners. It may be not the best for advanced students.
A teacher!

@ashjojo123 Then the method may be certainly boring for you, as a teacher. I wonder why students don't say the method is boring.

Oh my god! I think I have found the Jackpot. I teach English in Japan and I have pulling my hair out literally with getting my shy students to speak. I will try to use the Callan method. Can teachers be taught how to use the Callan method only through a course or just by buying a book from Amazon?

@khalilahinjapan It is relatevely easy to get self-trained to teach Callan method. However there are some school that offer a Callan Method training for teachers.
