In 24 hours, the Flood of the Millenium brought 24 inches of rain to Hilo and 36 inches to Pahala, as two monster tropical storms combined. Footage includes whitewater rapids on streets, kids rafting on lawns, a truck that makes a bad decision at 1:25, and the bridge at Pahala completely underwater in the most astonishing flash flood video ever seen. Footage of dry weather in 2010 precedes many of the flood scenes, for orientation. Pahala section starts at 1:49 and ends with views of the 2002 bridge.

Man I remember this day! It started around 10:00 at night. I went to watch a movie at Prince Kuhio!

The pick-up truck driving into the flood at 1:25 - incredibly stupid! This is why the slogan "Turn around, don't drown" is publicized by the National Weather Service. There was no way for the driver to tell what he was directing his vehicle into, and he was very lucky the truck didn't get completely swept downstream.
