Wonderful pictures. Did the ship get laid as she is now in Philidelphia in 1969? Because I thought it was 1996. Unless '69 is when she went out of service.

Yes, the ship was taken out of service in '69 and moved to Philadelphia in the '90s after asbestos removal. She's gutted, sadly, but still an awe inspiring sight!

Even thought they're Kodachrome photos, the color tone and photo textture look a bit too recent, even though the United States has been docked and has been rusting away for about 10-15 yrs. now.

The SS United States was laid up in November of 1969, almost forty years ago. Some of the Kodachrome slides and home movies I've seen still hold up remarkably well.
