Herewith, the original version of "Eitz Chaim", sung in many shuls (usually incorrectly!).whilst putting away the Sefer Torah. Please, listen to it and learn the right way to sing it.

The composer is Tanchum Portnoy, from his long-lost LP "Tanchumim", recorded during 1974 and released February 1975. The vocalist is Avraham Yanon; arrangements were by Yisroel Lamm. Long out of print; if anyone knows where the master is, please bring it out on CD; this generation needs to know what music sounded like before the DX-7 was invented.

  • much more upbeat than one hears in shul... but the "original way" is hardly the same as the "right way" when it comes to music, or prayer.

  • Thanks for this. do you have the original version of lecha dodi? Not the modern day variations?

  • I have this on cassette, it's beautiful!
