iirc, a maltese that isnt locked out or low enough is typically credited as deducted planche. and i dont think you ever get deducted for using false grip on a cross unless is ridic overdone. at least, i never heard of it happening

my coach wouldn't let any of the people on our team compete a Maltese because you get A credit if you aren't locked out and low enough. it's in the IHSA rule book. Gary should have gotten an A for it

By the way, unlike everyone else, Spevack is the only kid out there who can do a perfect cross WITH OUT false grip. Rybar was way over scored, Spevack deserves the title.

not gotten credit for the maltese??? he got credit for a back uprise planche, which is also a D because he changed up his routine so you are completely wrong on your judgements there. his crosses were fine, they were locked and the only deduc. would be for a minor false grip (which everyone does). And lets not forget he holds the STATE RECORD WITH A 9.9. Coming from a team mate of his, he is the best ring man in the state and deserved the state title.

Gary should not have gotten credit for his Maltese. without proper separation a sufficient arm bend a Maltese is an A not a D and he definitely should have gotten an A. he also was too high. his crosses also were not without tenths. although i agree Doug did not deserve a 9.55 i find Gary deserved a far lower score also. plus he never pointed his toes.

Gary Soper , Lake Park H.S. (navy w/ white pants) is the 5th up in this video. Doug Rybar is up 6th.

What level are these guys competing in?

It's the Illinois high school league--they don't use the standard level system. I think it would be roughly equivalent to level 9.
