The hepatojugular reflux sign, also known as abdominojugular reflux sign, is showed in an adult patient with tuberculous restrictive pericarditis. A gentile press over the right subcostal area for a few seconds increases the venous return to the right side of the heart expanding temporaly the jugular veins.

  • Thank´s to "leonardensen" for that correct observation, however please see the video at second 50. Here, during the maneouver the patient still mantain breathe movements (although of lesser depth). Aside from this fact, I can´t rebut "leonardensen" observation.

  • False positive result due to Valsalva's maneuver. This test should be performed while the patient breathes normally. As you can see, this patient stops breathing during the compression.

  • gracias por el aporte, muy bueno el video y la tecnica del examen fisico. now I can differentiate between hepatic and cardiac related edema.
