Ocean Beach is a world class beach break when its on (as seen here). It is also a world class hazardous spot for getting caught inside, having a long shore current as fast as you can paddle, and getting ice cream headaches. It is a damn good place to see a great white too but honestly when you're out there it is the last thing on your mind.

Oh, my God, the ASP is trying to make more money!! Can you believe this? What should they be doing? Feeding the starving kids of Mozambique? They're a sporting organization, not a charity organization. If you don't support them, fine. But for crying out loud, quit your whining. They want to make more money--so freakin' what! To all the whiners: do us a favor and go away ...

I'm not sure the ASP's intentions are pure with bringing surf contests to major cities and questionable locales like New York and San Francisco. Rather than exposing the sport of surfing to new and more people, aren't they just trying to make more money?

they are for sure having jet ski assist here. otherwise it would be a contest to see just who can make it out and stand up on a wave to win haha
