@JohnRichardDeacon Drums is an Rhythmic instrument, While Piano / guitar etc is both Rhythmic and Tones,
This is why people used to say " if you cant play the guitar, play the bass, if you cant play the bass play the drums "
But a Superior drummer needs Superior rhythmic ability, while a Superior gutarist don't need the same superior rhythmic ability, so your right in your statement, we agree in the end :)

his timpani playing is actually terrible. I mean what the fuck is up with the technique. at least he has passion but apparently lacks education in timpani performance

It's not only about speed in drumming. There is beauty in Roger's drumming.

Roger Taylor and Neil Peart are both amazing drummers. Roger had a smaller drum set, but could play a variety of instruments. Neil had a larger drum set, and wrote a lot of Rush's songs. I think (my opionion) that neither drummer is better. They are some of the greatest drummers in history.

@JohnRichardDeacon exactly. Anyone can 'play' a drum and make it make noise, but it takes a great deal of skill and practice to make a drum sound awesome.

I think its sad how people think that the drums are an easy interment to play and how they can achieve instant fame by learning to play the drums... it takes real talent.

Roger Taylor has always been one of my favorite drummers. This solo is a mother to play. Starts at the kit then to the tympanis to play a tympani solo that would make John Bonham proud! Rolling Stone magazine didn't have Roger in their Top 10 of drummers. He's better than Neil Peart IMHO (no disrespect to The Professor but Roger was a more talented drummer who could also write music, play guitar and bass and sing)!
