DYBIG Chapter 29

I wake to the sound of someone frantically pacing the floor.
"Nick?" I mumble groggily. He did not answer. As the sleep escapes my eyes, I begin to see him walking back and forth across the room. His eyes are wide and mad (mad as in crazy, not angry). His hands are running through his curly hair, and disgorging from his perfect lips are frenzied utterances, obviously of grievances for today's activities.
Today was the day when I would be meeting Nick's family. Why was he freaking out? I do not know. Why was I not freaking out?
I was. I have simply always been talented at hiding my true thoughts and feelings.
Nick, however, does not share this talent. That is why he was a musician, a songwriter, an ARTIST.
I stretch, yawn and arise from my cot, picking up the one outfit I have for court and meetings like this.
Dee, as she does every morning, groans.
"Oh my GAWD, you guys! I haven't had a full night's sleep since you two have gotten here! Like, seriously! Every friggin' morning! AGH!" She screamed into her pillow. As I do every morning, I chuckle quietly to myself.
But unlike other mornings, I will not be attending school, going to the rec room, or any of the normal things. Nick's back is turned- I quickly change while he is not looking.
This morning, I will be meeting Nick's family. I do not know how they will act when they see me. Angry? Depressed? Oddly polite when in actuality they are planning my demise?
"Allie!" Nick exclaims. Oops. I forgot again.
"Sorry Nick. I just don't see how this is a good idea." He walks over and encircles me in his strong arms.
"I don't either, actually. I have no idea how they are going to react to you. No offense Allie, but Art is a total dumbass." I laugh.
"I wouldn't go as far as saying that, but no, this is not one of his brightest moments."
"Shut. Up. I am trying to SLEEP." Dee snaps. I make a face at Nick. Oops.
An hour later, I am once again sitting in the back of a cop car. But today, I am not going to jail, or to court.
Instead I am on my way to the home of my boyfriend's family. However, they do not know he is my boyfriend. Or that he remains on earth in any form. Or that I didn't WANT to kill him.
"Are you ready, Allie?" Art opens the door and says. I shake my head.
"No, no I am not." Art pulls me out of the car. A policeman handcuffs me as Art stands by my side.
"Just be polite, Allie. Don't say anything stupid." Art directs. I nod and take a deep, shaky breath. The police officer leads my up to the door. He presses the doorbell with a rough enough force that I know not to make a run for it. Approximately fifteen seconds later, a soft middle aged woman with curly hair and a tired look about her face opens the door. She does not smile, not even politely. Behind me, Nick gasps.
"Come in," She murmurs, and turns around, leaving the door open for us to walk in. The policeman looks down at me and raises his eyebrows. Then he pulls me through the door. I hear a few people whispering to one another, and as I am led into a beautiful living room and see two handsome boys looking surprised and embarrassed, I can tell who it is. Next to me, I hear Nick let out a second gasp as he sees them.
The boys stand up. Well, I can hardly call them boys. They are men. Young men, the younger around twenty, the older possibly a year older. A young boy, probably around the age of eight runs in and looks up at me with a cross look upon his babylike face.
"Who are you?" He questioned. The older brother spoke.
"This is Allie Carpenter, Frankie. She's a...visitor."
