Verna Allee is a thought leader in the area of knowledge management and has helped many organizations in designing their KM strategy. In this mini-interview, Alakh Asthana of eClerx Services speaks with Verna about creating a meaningful KM scorecard.
Verna explains that the starting point is always to answer the question -- if knowledge management is the answer, what's the question? What is it that the organization is trying to accomplish by focusing on knowledge sharing and inevitably one will find that it's a business challenge. Perhaps the organization needs to be more agile, or reduce the time it takes to get a good answer to customers, or improve the efficiencies in work activities etc. The primary business issue is where one starts with the performance scorecard design.
