P.S. one last note, a lot of popular phrases have lost some of their historic meaning, one reason a lot of people say the N word now, but that doesn't mean that the original intent isn't still present. Gentlemen shouldn't swear in front of ladies, men should open the door for women, ladies first, etc, they've all become "common phrases" that we don't really think about, but it is important to think about what they say, not just how we as a society thinks of them now.

But even in that, that implies that women need to have the moral high ground in order for men to follow along, which isn't true. If you don't like to swear, that's fine. If you don't want people to swear, I'd go with a different argument against it, perhaps saying that some people, like yourself, would rather not see it, which is something that any good person could, and would, respect. I would leave the gender part out, even though I can tell you do not mean to be sexist.

OH YOU JUST DON'T GET IT! You guys always accuse me of being sexist when I say that thing about gentlemen. I'm just repeating a very common, well known saying to get people to THINK! I am not sexist! Yes I know that both sexes can swear! BOY do I know that, especially after getting the Internet! And that is why I REALLY get mad when women swear, because we will NEVER get the guys to stop swearing if they see WOMEN swearing!

I'm very fine with you thinking that profanity is vulgar, and should not be used, however I do have a problem with your use of the common saying "Gentleman shouldn't swear in front of a lady" because that derives from old traditions that women should be protected and kept pure from "evil" or "thought". I understand that isn't what you mean by it, and I realize I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions before, however I do disagree with you. Swearing is something both sexes can do, or not do.

It's almost like you don't think that free speech is a thing. If men can't swear BECAUSE THERE'S WOMEN, that's like saying men shouldn't talk about politics because it will offend/confuse the nice ladies who are JUST trying to cook and clean and take care of children.

Equality isn't about guys being nice to girls, it's about girls being treated the same as guys, and looking past what's in someone else's pants.
