Under its development strategy, Comhaltas has over several years been establishing Meitheal Regional Resource Centers around Ireland, each including performance theatres, tuition facilities, archives, etc. Recently in the Sligo Centre - the Ceoláras Coleman in Gurteen - we recorded the legendary Sligo fiddle and flute player Peter Horan and fiddle player Gerry Harrington playing these three reels: "The Trip to Portobello", "The Old Blackthorn Stick" and "The Green Groves of Erin".

He was the nicest Irish gentlemen I have ever met in my life. It was an honour having met him. Rest in peace.

As the late Sean Ryan might have said...''Grand oul' blend'' ! Note the way Peter does not force the lower octave into the higher...a dreadful 'modern' development!

@TheWoodyturner Peter Horan may be passed his best , but he retains that good sense of melody and tuning now becoming rare...he does not push the tune where it was not meant to go....notice his relaxed embuchure ..not ''smiling''...as James Galway says ...''The smiling embuchure is no good'' !! Younger players please copy!!
