On October 5, 2011 the NYS&W ran two separate NS 13T detour trains over the CNY and NYS&W Southern Division. This is due to crew shortages, massive slow orders, and flooding related repair work along the CP-Sunbury Line. The NYS&W has handeled a half dozen or so 13T's and more are expected to come.

This evening's train was originally lead by NS CW40-9 #9699, NS CW40-9 #8891, NS ES40DC #7641, UP C40-8 #9139 when it left Binghamton, NY, but two Susquehanna engines were added at Warwick over concerns about getting this 114 car, 2 mile long monstrosity, over Sparta Mountain. Engines added were NYSW #3018, and CEFX #3143.

This footage was shot alongside Main Street in Butler, NJ at approximately 9:30pm.

  • Nice shot! My video will be up in a few minutes. Oddly enough we were both at Sparta today and I didn't know who you were until afterwards. Nice meeting you.

  • Great catch! It feels so strange to see NS GEs on this line, and even stranger to see Union Pacific.

  • i counted 112

  • Great catch! Sadly I'm not around to get these. Oh I see we have another Darwin Award candidate at 0:32.

  • I had 116 cars
