We visited many Nazi things the last few days and this song has been in my head regarding the entire situation. I hope you gain the feel of what it has been like here. Song by Derek Webb, called, "My enemies are men like me."
to answer the question, when i made the video it was to make the hard point, what decision would you make? God loves all men, and Jesus died for us while we were yet sinners, so how should we treat our brothers? This is a hard topic, and requires prayer, so pray.
The line about capital punishment is so true.. forget what those people did. Why do we get to be just in killing them? Forgive your enemies ring a bell?
oh so contraversial, I think it is saying that when some injustice is done, how should we react to it. our human nature wants to retaliate, but that wasn't Jesus' example, we can't say killing is wrong so we'll kill you, We have to take a much stronger and harder position of peaceful protest. This is so hard because after such an autrocity God says- put down ur sword, its no longer an outward battle. (tear) so difficult
It's a tough juxtoposition... On the one hand you have the song that so many people are challenged by and that promotes pacifism and on the other hand you have the video that shows the atrocities of the Third Reich that many anti-pacifism people use to support the use of violence. I'm not sure if the person posting is trying to say how he thinks Derek is misled or if he's trying to say that we need to remember that the Nazi's are beloved by God despite their evil deeds.
But i think Derek or myself have beliefs that are rooted in christianity. We believe:
-we should love your enemies.
-we do not use an eye for an eye(just war theory) but turn the other cheek (not fighting)
-Pray for those who persecute us
I suppose fighting back would have been needed to save the life of Jesus or his followers who died for many many years. but they refused to fight back, instead prayed for their enemies well being, like jesus.
I'm a fan of Webb, but the fact is that war can be necessary. I hope people aren't forgetting that. "I will protest the sword IF IT'S NOT WIELDED WELL."

I agree that "the ones who always pay are the poorest of the poor." So sad.

Probably one of the best songs I've ever heard. I heard it at my church and was blown away.
