  • I think I saw you filming this at Club Colosseum (I was at the back and couldn't see anything...was hoping you'd post it here!). Yes, these are the current World Champions...I think they are John and Judy from Cali, Colombia as sarauca says. Thanks for posting it!

  • cool - glad you like the post...more to come shortly!

  • good show:-) but this is not rafael and janet (as you wrote in your commentary.)this is from cali, colombia, not cuba.

  • i'm not sure myself to be honest - this is what the flyer and the person who introduced them said they were?!? - hope you like the upload.

  • PART 3

My first comment just wanted to put the record straight with regards to the misconception that what is danced in Cali is called Pachanga and Bugalu; these styles of dancing from the late 1960's, as well as the music have remained as important parts of the dance repertoire and Calenos' dance identity, in a time capsule in Cali, Colombia and the Colombian diasporas around the world, very big in some countries, i.e. the USA, the UK, Spain, etc., but nowhere else.

  • PART 2

Their origins are a bit of an enigma, but what it does show is Colombians' passion and love affair with dance in general; did you know that the 2006 Tango World Champions are from Cali? or that the 2006 Cuban Rueda de Casino World Champions called Rucafe are from Cali as well? I'm stating this just to emphasize what I've mentioned about the love of dancing of Colombians and in particular Calenos.

  • PART1 1

Hi Arydias85, you're right what i wrote before is not totally accurate, there are elements of Pachanga and Bugalu (Cali's answer to boogaloo)in the dance, perhaps this is the base of the fast and fiery tempo of Caleno Salsa dancers' way of dancing, but what you're saying is not accurate either. The Cali Salsa style is a very particular dance style that combines many elements, those already mentioned as well as Afro-Colombian rhythms, Mambo, Son, Guaracha, Rock'n'Roll, Swing and Jive.
