This is a shorter Walt Whitman poem and was one of the reasons he was controversial in his day (latter 19th Century).

  • Great poem...David Hockney used this title for his 70's painting...

  • Brilliant! Thank you for taking the time to do this.

  • Moon Trent has turned this into a song on his new CD "Love Bytes EP"

  • Brilliant. Beautiful. Powerful. Profound. My favorite poem from my favorite poet. Walt Whitman was truly the greatest American. When I think of Walt, I don't think of him as the old man depicted in most photos of him; I think of him as a lusty young man in love with an entire nation. This poem also reminds me of Jack Twist and Ennis del Mar, the main characters in "Brokeback Mountain." This poem is about all of us who have been "two boys together clinging, one the other never leaving."

  • Doesn't sound empty. It's a man's voice embracing the language of this great American poet. The photo images are wonderful - they take us back over generations of American men, and to times when men could be close to other men without today's rigid homophobia. Thanks for making this fine video.

  • It's easy to hear in this poem how Allen Ginsberg was influenced by Whitman. Good pictures, too.

  • it sounds like a computer...

its a good poem, but it sounds empty
