Amazing sighting of a 5 tigers together at Pench National Park in MP. We sighted this family together near Bijamatta in Pench. The mother of the cubs (one wearing the collar) had featured in the BBC wildlife film SPY IN THE JUNGLE at that time when the series was shot in 2008 she was one of the cubs now she has grown up and has successfully brought up her own litter of 4 cubs (3 male and 1 female). we sighted all 5 of them on 28th Jan 2010 and then again on 30th Jan 2010 during the 2nd sighting the mother had killed a spotted deer and the cubs were eating it. The video starts with the mother leading the cubs and also ends with the mother resting in the bushes tired after making the kill.

  • Actually the best place to spot tigers right now seems to be Tadoba, I had spotted 10 different tigers there in April 2010. Had seen 6 (incl the mother & 4 cubs) in Pench in Feb 2010. While at Ranthambhore I just saw 1 tigress twice (T17) after 7 safaris.

  • Just great video footage of tigers... I would think it unusual that four cubs from a single litter had survived to this size... but perhaps that happens often enough (I sure hope so)... thanks for posting.

  • @Juscz Yes all 4 survived. Actually the mother of these cubs is also one of a litter of 4 cubs and luckily all of them also survived till adulthood. If you have seen the BBC film ' Spy in the Jungle' it depicts the story of a mother and 4 cubs and one of the cubs is the mother which I spotted. I had spotted them in Feb 2010 and recently (20 Sept 2010) I had got a call from one of the naturalists in Pench that the mother has been spotted with a fresh litter of 3 cubs.

  • i hope we can protect them from getting extinct.

  • Very good to know that this same tigress has had 3 more cubs (I am all for tiger conservation... saw 11 tigers in all this past May-June in, collectively, Bandhavgarh [6], Kanha [4], and Corbett [1])... sure hope that their numbers in India can be increased to at least 2,000 individuals and maintained at that level... your documentation is much appreciated... just great scenes and wish I could have been there to film those myself.
