I am an ex sufferer of social anxiety disorder and my friend Janey http://www.youtube.com/janeyfromkorea has kindly arranged this Q and A session for us.

I am answering questions from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtFAayZDfMw apologies if I missed a couple out, please nudge me if I have.

I am living proof that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and there is a way out of having social phobia/anxiety.

Please feel to ask more questions on this video.

Thanks
Steve

  • Great video, I'm stoked you have overcome SA. You have inspired me to finally tackle it and I know that I will be able to, I have already come pretty far these past few years. Take care :]

  • @undergr0undkid Thank you! And well done yourself! That's really cool. Please update me with progress :-)

  • i read this on another forum and its so true

""Face your fears and theyll go away?"

Sorry, but this therapist does not understand the dynamics of social anxiety. We, as people with social anxiety, have constantly faced our fears ever since birth weve had to and we feel more fearful now than we did in the past"

  • Ive always been painfully shy as a kid, and recently have been diagnosed with this disorder...didnt realise it was a disorder, its just something Ive always had to live with. i wouldnt dream of telling anyone, except my partner..why? because I am too embarrassed.

  • I would like to think that I no longer have social anxiety disorder. I'm just shy now...and the only reason I'm shy is because I been shelter all my life and I never learned social skills going up my parents never had any friends or socialized. Only thing i have to do now is talk to a lot of people and eventually I won't feel uncomfortable. I'm getting better and better at it. If you put other people at ease you will also put yourself at ease.

  • I share your feelings about it, the anxiety disorder is common in all people. But only some people with anxiety disorders may be, but we try to learn and learn to eliminate excessive anxiety attitude

  • i love the way you talk. You're from the UK right? which city?

  • That sounds great - i mean the studying psychology to learn more and help others. I write letters too to everyone but i never mail them, it's just a way of getting things out. I'm in the process of applying to uni myself and i was wondering, when you applied did you tell the people at uni about having SA? For some reason i find admitting to people i have SA really difficult.

  • Check my channel for a documentary on S.A.D. called "Afraid of People: A Social Anxiety Disorder Documentary"

  • when you had social anxiety did you have eye problems? cause i do.. i can't look people in the eye or have a normal conversation without having this treamandous feeling of axiety which causes me social anxiety
