The first half of my reconstruction of Episode 1 of this missing Who serial, made using stills, video clips and the surviving soundtrack (narrated by Anneke Wills).

I would like to thank RefusisRecons for his help in sourcing clips. I would also like to acknowledge those who have reconstructed episodes of this story before me - including cbatt91337, Chad Moore, MrClassicDoctorWho, tenthplanet1995 and VarosRecons - who have inspired me in various ways and motivated me to raise my game.

The narrated soundtrack is available on CD from BBC Audio. The Dalek prelude scene is from the CD The Dalek Conquests, narrated by Nicholas Briggs. Support the BBC releases!

  • Thanks for the recon. My only desire is that it had the real soundtrack (not narriated or edited). The talking distracts from it to me. That being said, great job.

  • @GeorgeAD4 Thanks for the comment. As a matter of fact, I too was "narration-phobic" to begin with. My first few recons (Marco Polo, The Crusade, The Ice Warriors) were narration-free - you may enjoy them more. After them, I pretty much ran out of good-quality narration-free soundtracks, so I reluctantly turned to the narrated ones. However, the narration has generally proven popular, going by the comments I have received.

  • Thanks for all your work! It's great to see this with crisp photos -- I can finally see Bragen's fascist uniform and Troughton's hat!

  • @ProteusQ71 Thanks! It was bloomin' hard work.

  • Beautifully reconstructed! I once again take my hat off to you sir!

  • @MrClassicDoctorWho I would like a hat like that!

  • I appreciate very much Johnny's work. My comments are just on narr audio.

Im sure many like the narr & while in theory its not a bad idea. what I notice is that its hard to get "involved" in the story, because when the narrator starts. it changes from being involved in the show to the position of the narator. If this happened ocasionally, it might not be as bad. But it changes back and forth between positons often where its difficult to follow, Subtitles or less narr would be less abstrusive.

  • I actually like the narration better. It's feels like a story book and doesn't have lengthy silence. And you can better understand what's going because you have the narration tell you. It's not like an audio drama where the characters speak aloud every action they are doing. Thank you for these.

  • Great work on POTD. Very much looking forward to your Galaxy4 now! You did an excellent job. I hope the BBC buy up your hard work for proper release.
