I've hiked and camped and explored almost every trail in Wyoming's southern Wind River Range, which is "my back yard" above Lander, WY. I've also climbed some of the iconic peaks in the Wind Rivers. But only last week did I hike all over, and to the end/top of Roaring Fork Mountain. Roaring Fork Mountain, like its name, forks into two long ridges/mountains. My husband, Jerry, and I hiked from Worthen Reservoir via Stough Creek Basin Trail to the Stough saddle, which is about 4 miles. From there we hiked off-trail, over tundra, boulder fields and scree for another 5.5 miles. We had jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring scenery the entire way. Too many lakes to count on either side of us. and too many cirques to count. Absolutely stunning country. Stough Basin, which was to one side during the entire Roaring Fork hike/ascent, is home to more than 30 lakes. We saw most of them. The other side is full of lakes scattered in Silas Canyon and Atlantic Canyon and the Leg Lake/Roaring Fork Lake/Creek areas. Also while hiking we enjoyed a expansive, constant view of the southern Wind River Range, including great views of Wind River Peak and Lizard Head Peak. This was a spectacular day hike in the Wind River Range, that is for sure! For more, go to HaveMediaWillTravel.com.
