My 16 day old baby cockatiel Rory developed an impacted crop. Here is a video showing an easy and relatively safe way to remove impacted food from the crop of a young bird.

The crop can be impacted by bacteria, slow crop, dried or clumped food, or seeds that the parents gave the babies that they couldnt digest.

Materials needed: Syringe, catheder (cut tip of catheder to suit the baby), paper towels.

SPECIAL NOTES:
- have someone hold the baby's head and nect straight up, allowing easy access inside.
- make sure the person holding the bird can watch and see when the catheder is poking the skin of the crop. they should tell you to pull up a little when it happens.
- allow your baby at least a half hour's rest in between sessions of suction. I do about 12 pulls and thern i take a break. Continue until almost empty.
- after draining, allow the bird time to rest and possibly digest. Later, give bird very, VERY watery, warm formula.

Good luck everyone!
