Lyrics:

This is a story, about a man named Bob
Who dreamed of being a body builder,
but instead, has a low paying job.

Well when Bob was only a teen,
his dreams were crushed by Mrs. Mean.
But Bob is tired of using, over 40 muscles to frown,
when he could be using, only 20 to smile.

So Bob got off of his gluteus maximus,
and hired a weight trainer,
to get rid of that flab...
ROTATE, FLEX, EXTEND
THE MUSCULAR SYSTEM IS YOUR FRIEND

[Trainer] 200 more crunches, I want to see those 6 abdominals, along with your 634 other muscles!!!
[Bob] I cant do it! Im too weak!
[Trainer] Dont give up!!! Dont you want to have strength?
[Bob] Strength!
[Trainer] Balance?
[Bob] Balance!
[Trainer] Good posture?
[Bob] Posture!

ROTATE, FLEX, EXTEND
THE MUSCULAR SYSTEM IS YOUR FRIEND!

But one gloomy day

[Trainer] Bob! Are you okay?
[Bob] Owwww! I think I strained my deltoid!

Those one too many hours of stretching before working out
Finally caught up to him
[Trainer] How many times have I told you not to overstretch!

Too bad Bob pulled a muscle,
But luckily, he can drink a carbohydrate and protein shake to recover faster, and reduce any damage

[Bob] How can I get more energy to work out though?
[Trainer] Well...let me tell you a thing or two about energy...

Your body will convert all those carbs into glucose, which is carried into the blood stream and transported to your cells! ATP! ATP! ATP! The extra glucose is then stored in the liver and muscles!

ROTATE, FLEX, EXTEND
THE MUSCULAR SYSTEM IS YOUR FRIEND

[Trainer] Now Bob, you have 1.2.3.! types of muscles. Don't be neglecting any one of them...

You've got your smooth muscle-- which is involuntary, found within the organ walls, such as your intestines.
You've got your cardiac muscle-- Which is also involuntary! It's only found within the heart.
And lastly, you've got your skeletal muscle-- Which is voluntary! And anchored to the bones by your tendons.

In skeletal muscle, contraction is stimulated by electrical impulses transmitted by the nerves.
Unlike the skeletal, smooth and cardiac contractions are stimulated by internal pacemaker cells which regularly contract, and transmit contractions to other muscle cells they're in contact with.

[Bob]..... what?

ROTATE, FLEX, EXTEND
THE MUSCULAR SYSTEM IS YOUR FRIEND

A few months later,
Bob started to feel down.

[Trainer] Whats the matter?!
[Bob]Im gaining weight

Little did Bob know, his muscles could make up to, up to 50% of his weight.

Then one day, on a very chilly afternoon,
Bob noticed that he didn't need a coat
He ran to his all-knowing trainer, and asked him why!?!?!?
And his trainer said:

Muscles use a lot of energy to create movement such as jumping
Collecting and storing heat as a byproduct.
Therefore, more muscle mass equals more heat you will be able to maintain!

ROTATE, FLEX, EXTEND
THE MUSCULAR SYSTEM IS YOUR FRIEND!

Muscle cells are long cells called myofibrils.
They are quite different!
When muscles grow, the individual cells simply become thicker and longer instead of dividing into entirely new cells.

After a long, tear-filled journey,
Bob finally became a professional bodybuilder

Moral of the story is,
Don't take shortcuts kids (aka steroids),
And always remember that

THE MUSCULAR SYSTEM IS YOUR FRIEND!
THE MUSCULAR SYSTEM IS YOUR FRIEND!!
THE MUSCULAR SYSTEM IS YOUR FRIEND!!!

and it makes things happen,

ROTATE, FLEX, EXTEND...... yaaa

  • atp plays a role in muscle building??! or was i just not getting the gist of this??

  • @cassandra201 ATP doesn't literally "build" muscle, but rather give them the power needed to function. Just look over the lyrics, and you'll notice that ATP is mentioned in the part about energy. ATP=energy!
