  • This film won the 1992 Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film.

  • I feel so uncultured for only recognizing a handful of paintings.

  • I keep telling others that this is the greatest animated short I have ever seen (at Spike & Mikes Festival, 1991 & 1992) It took her 10 years to make this. I wasn't happy when it wasn't

Oscar nominated, in 1991..but it was in 1992, and it won. Not that I like to see great animated shorts pitted against each other. (i.e. Screenplay vs. Mona Lisa...both great)

  • I masturbate to this.

  • G E N I A L !

  • Why do so many people have problems with this film? It's just a morphing of famous (mostly 20th century) artworks... The strangeness is in the original art, more than likely...

  • How to make an award winning short film: Make it as strange as you possibly can.

  • Was Joan Gratz dissaproving of Modern Art as a fall from grace, or glorifying it?

  • The Philip Guston guy sighing in resignation and turning off the light just sends me.

  • The animation technique is called claypainting. In this technique, bits of clays were used as if they were oil or acrylic paint and the effects are marvelous.
