I keep telling others that this is the greatest animated short I have ever seen (at Spike & Mikes Festival, 1991 & 1992) It took her 10 years to make this. I wasn't happy when it wasn't
Oscar nominated, in 1991..but it was in 1992, and it won. Not that I like to see great animated shorts pitted against each other. (i.e. Screenplay vs. Mona Lisa...both great)

Why do so many people have problems with this film? It's just a morphing of famous (mostly 20th century) artworks... The strangeness is in the original art, more than likely...

The animation technique is called claypainting. In this technique, bits of clays were used as if they were oil or acrylic paint and the effects are marvelous.
This film won the 1992 Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film.
